1862 June 23

Yesterday and to day have been so
remarkably quiet, that the report that the
rebs had, or were evacuating Richmond,
was greatly beleived by the troops.
This morning a reconnoisance was made,
and a short but obstinate skirmish ensued,
but as neither party could gain any advan-
tage, both sides with drew, as if by mutual
consent. In the evening, had a severe thunder
shower. During the day it was excessively
warm.
